Advice For The Non-Reenactor
visiting the
Battle At Fort Knox Civil War Living History Weekend
If you have never been to a Civil War event before, or if you have enjoyed one of the local encampments, this will surely be an event you will talk about for a long time to come.
The Battle of Fort Knox is one of the largest, all encompassing Civil War event in New England… the largest ever in Maine! With expected participants to number well over 100, 150200, (men, women and children), Maine will get a feel for the way life was in 1864. We have reenactors coming from all over New England as well as from Florida, Michigan, New York, Maryland and some Northern Neighbors from Canada. These reenactors portray military personnel from the Navy, Army, Marines, Coast Guard (infantry, artillery, medical), members of the U.S. Sanitary Commission, and Civil War era civilians as well as Sutlers. We also will be joined by Civil War authors and historical exhibitors throughout the weekend.
To facilitate your visit, the locations of some of our folks will be:
Confederate Camp located on Battery A:
The Confederate Army will be encamped on Battery A. There you will find Confederate soldiers and civilians in their daily life. Experience life as it was for our Southern citizens.
Union Garrisoned inside the fort:
Experience life as it was for soldiers inside the forts. Get a feel for the closeness of the soldiers and lack of amenities.
Town of “Unity” in picnic area:
Here you will experience life from the civilian aspect. Men, women and children in their daily lives as the war rages on all around them.
More to come….
